On Monday last the commission from his Majesty, appointing his Excellency Major General ROBERT MONCKTON, Captain General and Governor in Chief in and over the province of New-York, and territories thereon depending in America, was published at the City Hall, with the usual solemnity; on which occasion his Excellency was attended by the Lieutenant Governor, His Majesty's Council, the Gentlemen of the Clergy, the Gentlemen of the Corporation, the Sheriff with his proper Officers, and the City Militia under arms: --- A considerable number of Officers of the Army and other Gentlemen of distinction accompanied the procession. At night the city was handsomely illuminated.
