Joseph Wilkins Retires After 35 Years With American Home Mutual Insurance Co

Upon the completion of thirty-four years of service with the American Home Mutual Life Insurance Company, Mr. Joseph Wilkins was honored in an impressive retirement ceremony on Tuesday morning, August 15, in the Savannah branch office of the company. The presentation of a solid gold, 27-jewel, selfwinding watch, on which was inscribed, "In appreciation of 34 years of loyal service, August 15, 1961," was made by Mr. T. M. Harrell, Vice President and Agency Supervisor.

In awarding the watch to the honoree Mr. Harrell stated that the company paid homage and respect to Mr. Wilkins for his most loyal and faithful service.

Beginning with the American Home Mutual on June 11, 1927 the seventy-four year old Mr. Wilkins started as an insurance deputy setting up lodges in the Savannah area. When the company was converted into a mutual insurance company in 1949 he became an agent and continued in this capacity until his retirement.

In commenting on his career in the insurance field, Mr. Wilkins stated that he would highly recommend insurance as a career for ambitious young men for it offers a challenge to them for a better way of life. Residing with his wife, Annie, on East Taylor Street, Mr. Wilkins who is the father of ten children, says he plans to just relax and work in his garden now that he is retired.

Mr. John Q. Jefferson is district manager of the Savannah office of American Home Mutual Life Insurance Company, and Mr.
