In an able review of the Republican National platform, the Examiner truthfully says: "It is brilliant in glittering generalities and specific in nothing. Outside of a demand for an increased duty upon wool, which a Republican Congress lessened, the platform is destitute of a single tangible issue. They charge that the Democratic party has failed to relieve the people of the burden of unnecessary taxation by a wise reduction of surplus, well knowing that the Senate and executive departments of the Government are in the hands of the Republicans, and that no law passed by the present Democratic House of Representatives with reference to taxation is operative, and that it is impossible that any influence of which these laws are capable can yet be felt by the country. In this charge the convention is at once disingenuous and deceptive. It makes a false issue which the intelligence of the country will not fail to note. These are the salient features of the platform, and they fully justify the statement that this official expression of Republican doctrine is the most remarkable and evasive document ever put out by an organized political body."
