We are informed that in some of the camps it is denied that the Standard supports Mr. Vance! And we are sometimes told by Vance men that we must not say anything against Vance but denounce Holden as much as possible. We tell them that Mr. Vance is no better than Mr. Holden—he is not Holden's equal in ability. Then why should any one go for Vance and oppose Holden—why should it be denied that the Standard supports Vance? We don't aim to abuse either Mr. Vance or Mr. Holden—but it is right that the truth should be made known about them: they are both wire-pulling politicians.
Mr. Vance has a reputation for being a clever man (as he ought to be) and a first rate hand at telling an anecdote. That's all.
