Full Text

On Monday Commodores Bainbridge, Evans and Perry, General Swift and Colonel M'Cray, visited this harbour in the Lyon schooner, for the purpose of making observations, preparatory to a decision on the most suitable places for defences of a naval Dock-Yard, and Depot. The report, that these gentlemen are directed to make an actual survey of the whole eastern coast, is inaccurate. Their duty, we understand, merely requiring, that they examine the entrance of harbours—ascertain the depth of the water occasionally, and as it respects points of defense, to take coup-d'oeil views.
