"We entertain not the slightest doubt that Virginia will go at the next election for General Jackson. She prefers principles to men: she will not sacrifice her principles, even for him. Many of her citizens will vote for him, as the only man now, competent to defeat the Author of the American System."
Richmond Enquirer.
"The friends of General Jackson are opposed to the United States Bank; the friends of Henry Clay are supporters of it."
Albany Argus and Washington Globe.
"The public measures of Gen. Jackson are in strict accordance with the views and wishes of the South."
N. Y. Courier and Enquirer.
"Upon the success of Henry Clay, depends the continuance of the Tariff System, and upon its defeat the System must fall."
New York Evening Post.
The foregoing extracts are from several of the most prominent Jackson papers in the country, and exhibit the ground on which General Jackson's re-election is advocated. Those who support him are determined on making a great effort to overthrow the tariff system. If they succeed, it is impossible to predict the extent of the ruin which must take the place of the present highly prosperous state of the business of the country.
