Atlanta Unofficial Juvenile Spelling Champion Is Only Five Years Of Age
Five-year-old Billie Robinson, Son Of Mrs. Hattie Mae Robinson of Washington, D. C., and grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Reid, 27 Raymond street, S. W., is rapidly forging to the front as Atlanta's leading juvenile speller. At any rate, this young man, a star pupil of the private kindergarten class of Mrs. Knma Hunter at her home, 37 Chestnut street, N. W., issues a challenge to any other juvenile in the city to match his brilliance at spelling. He handles four syllable words with surprising ease and can spell much better than the average third grade pupil, as was demonstrated the past week when he succeeded in sitting down a host of third-graders against whom he was competing in an exhibition.
Billie has barely skimmed the five year mark, having had his last birthday April 9 of this year. He was born on that date the year 1931 and, for the past four years, has amazed the friends of his relatives, as well as teachers and citizens at large, with his unusual precociousness.
Billie spells words like automobile, circus, morning, birthday, afternoon, Easter, and others with comparative ease. He gets his "Capitals" in the right place and pronounces his words clearly before and after spelling them with the smoothest of technique.
