Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Finance Committee members, W. D. Hawkins, Auditor-Nashville, Tennessee; Laurence T. Young, General Secretary, Chicago; Meredith Ferguson, General Treasurer, Nashville, Tennessee and Kermit Hall, Chairman of Philadelphia met with General President, William H. Hale, Langston, Oklahoma at the Commodore Hotel in New York City recently to formulate the 1961 program. Also in attendance: W. Barton Beatty, Montclair, New Jersey, Editor of Sphinx; Millard R. Dean, Washington, D. C., Director of Publicity and Public Relations; William H. Brown, Philadelphia, General Counsel; James T. Adams, Chicago, Chairman, National Headquarters; Clifton R. Jones, Baltimore, Maryland, Director of Educational Activities; Edward H. Ballard, Los Angeles; Chairman, Vice-Presidents' Council; Myles A. Paige, Brooklyn, New York, Past General President; William D. Coverdale, Yeadon, Pennsylvania, Undergraduate Representative and Frank L. Stanley, Louisville, Kentucky. 1961 Convention Chairman.
$10,000.00 Scholarship Fund divided between high school and college students with Fellowships for graduate study was agreed upon with Dr. Clifton R. Jones Morgan State College as Director of Educational Activities. High School awards to boys and girls are based on essay contest winners and undergraduate grants for college students and graduate fellowships are selected on high scholastic attainment along with the financial need.
Eastern Regional Vice-President William Coverdale, a student at Drexel Institute of Technology in Philadelphia, stressed the need for fraternity houses to be set up by the national organization
