THE PRESIDENT

We received several letters from Concord. He himself [is] obliged to return to Washington by the quickest conveyance he could command, [instead of visiting] Vermont and the upper part of New-York as he contemplated. All concur in stating his health to be very much impaired, and one suggests the probability of his resigning his office on his return to Washington. It is said Mr. Woodbury has accompanied him, although a letter we have seen from that gentleman written on Sunday evening, did not seem to contemplate it. This spoke as if he contemplated a visit here in a day or two, but perhaps, since writing it, the state of the President's health may have been such as to require his company.
