Full Text
The quarrel was as sudden as it was violent. All the parties were no doubt under the influence of liquor. as all of them we are told were recently from the dinner on the State House square, where the ardent had been liberally dispensed. What was the precise degree of their intoxication is not very material. Staggering drunkenness generally does less mischief than that which inflames the passions without paralizing the bodily energies. Their blood was doubtless much heated by the spirits they had been tempted to swallow; and Smith, now in his grave, is one more victim to that same curse of the country, which has sent hundreds of thousands before him.—Milledgeville Journal.
