Draw Up Plans To
Support Hospital
Foundation

By Ramona Lowe

MIAMI, Fla. (ANP)-- Plans to support the National Hospital foundation headed by the Rev. Amos Carnegie are being drawn up here by Negro leaders. The foundation proposes to establish a 150 bed hospital here with a training school for nurses.

The hospital which will be erected at a cost of $2,000,000 will be eligible for federal funds which under the hospital survey and construction act will lend 50 per cent of the building cost.

Officers of the committee endorsing Rev. Carnegie's program are the Rev. Theodora Gibson, pastor of Christ Episcopal church in Coconut Grove, chairman; The Rev. Edward T. Graham, pastor of Mt. Zion Baptist church, Miami, treasurer; the Rev. Richard DeVeaux, deacon of the American Catholic church, secretary.

The Rev. Carnegie gave up his church work to promote the foundation which he hopes will establish hospitals in every city having Negro communities of 10,000 or more.

In Miami 45,000 Negroes will benefit by such a hospital who now have the limited facilities of Christian hospital, only Negro hospital here, or the segregated accommodations of the municipal hospital. More than 300 students in the Negro high schools have already expressed a desire for nurse training and so would be benefited, according to Rev. Carnegie.

Sufficient money for the program can be raised if every Negro in the country will contribute $1 and the churches are expected to spearhead such a drive. The foundation according to the director has the endorsement of 60 senators, 38 governors and 40 medical schools.
