Final Selection of Teams s Made For All-Indian Tournament

Browning's annual attraction, the third annual North American All-Indian Basketball Tournament, on March 1-3 will pit eight selected all-Indian teams from Montana, Idaho, Wyoming and the province of Alberta, Canada, to determine top Indian teams, in the tourney sponsored by the Browning Lions Club.

The host team, the Blackfeet Braves, winners of the title the last two years, will defend the honor against teams from Fort Peck, Busby Cheyennes, Harlem, Wolf Point, Lapwai, Idaho, Arapahoe, Wyoming and Cardston, Alberta, Canada.

A late development, a request that LaConner, Wash., an entrant over the past two years and always one of the better teams, may be honored, and this fact may alter the tournament schedule by tournament time.

Indians from areas represented in the invitational tourney will begin arriving earlier in the coming week, which will enable visiting teams to get in practice sessions that will give them the "feel" of the community's spacious gymnasium prior to the three-day affair beginning Thursday afternoon at 2:30 p.m.

Visiting teams can rest assured that only qualified referees sanctioned by the Montana Officials Association will supervise all games, to insure the continuing success of this unusual and unique attraction.

This newspaper encourages the entire community to support it by attending and witnessing the high-type of basketball planned by the sponsoring Lions Club.

Proceeds of the activity will go towards the construction of a recreational and picnic-ground park in the vicinity of the north boundary of the town limits, in the area generally west of the recently destroyed-by-fire tribal office.

Construction of the proposed park is expected to begin in earnest this coming summer.

The town band will furnish music during the tournament. Heart Butte twirlers will perform Thursday evening; the Babb Drum and Bugle Corps will entertain Friday evening, and the Starr School Dancers will give out with dances at half-time of the second game on Saturday night. Raffle drawings will be held at half-time of the first game the same night.

A color guard from the local American Legion post will take part in the flag ceremony before the initial game at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Advance tickets are on sale at Greco Drug.
