Bilbo made the insult in reply to her letter against his filibustering the FEPC bill.
"He told me to keep my nose out of his business." she said, 'but I am making his business my business. Institution of fair employment practices and elimination of the poll tax laws in Mississippi will put Bilbo out of business.'

Miss Piccolo, a resident of Brooklyn, pointed out that Bilbo's thinking means discrimination against groups. Discrimination means only partial employment. We cannot have full employment without fair employment."
Resolutions were adopted during the meeting that urged Illinois congressmen to support repeal of poll tax laws and the state department to boycott fascists in Italy.
Mayor Kelly and Sens. Brooks and Lucas were also urged to back the CIO's movement to remove Bilbo from office.
