Congressman Charles C. Diggs, Jr. will deliver the Commencement address at Florida Normal and Industrial Memorial College on Monday, May 21.
Ten o'clock will mark the beginning of the commencement exercises at Florida N. and I. M. College in St. Augustine, Florida.
Besides the usual but vital awarding of degrees and citations, the occasion will be highlighted by the deliverance of the Commencement Address by the Honorable Charles C. Diggs, Jr., a member of Congress from the State of Michigan.
In his rise to prominence as Michigan's first Negro Congressman, Mr. Diggs, the happily married father of three, has won distinction in several walks of life. As a student at the University of Michigan he won the University's oratorical championship. His gift of tongue has extended to his informative talks to a vast radio audience at 9:30 p.m. every Sunday evening, emanating from Detroit's Radio Station WJB.
Previous to and during his rise in politics, Mr. Diggs, as its president, has managed to help create Michigan's largest funeral home and the largest Negro-owned funeral home in the United States, The House of Diggs, Inc.
Mr. Diggs became a Michigan Congressman on November 2, 1954 after having served as State Senator from the Third District for four sessions.
