Full Text
"The Oil Springs are about twenty five miles in a north-west direction from Fort Washita, on the east side of the False Washita; and about three miles from it, on a stream of beautiful clear water that has a fall, or successive falls, of near ninety feet. The oil exudes from the rock or cliff overhanging these falls in drops of the size of a goose quill, having the taste, smell, and consistency of British Oil. It has been told me that this oil and the water with which it mingles has, by drinking and rubbing externally, effected some of the most astonishing cures of chronic rheumatism and mercurial affections that have ever been known. Persons have been carried there doubled up with disease or emaciated to skeletons, coming away, in a very short time, cured perfectly, with a new lease on dear life."
