FIRE.—The residence of John Hanlon, at the junction of the Shasta and Douglas City roads, was entirely destroyed by fire at daylight on the 3d inst. He had started a fire in the kitchen stove only a short time previous to the discovery that the house was in flames, and supposes the fire was caused from the escape of a few sparks below the roof. Mrs. Hanlon was sick and confined to her bed at the time, and escaped through a window in her night clothes with the greatest difficulty, bearing an infant child with her, while Mr. Hanlon saved the two elder children. In fifteen minutes the house, with its entire contents, and the barn adjoining were in ashes. The house belonged to Michael Smith, of Democrat Gulch, who places his loss at $800. Mr. Hanlon could not replace his household goods for $1,500. It was an untimely misfortune, and one in which Mr. H. receives the sympathy of the whole community.—Trinity Journal
