To the Editor of The Express:
I have been in the city since Tuesday noon (this is Thursday evening). Since then I have been from the Crystal Cave of South Dakota to the tropical gardens of Central and South America, from the orange groves and the pyramids of ripened fruit, some 35 feet in height, of California, to the happy rural homes of the people of New England. I have visited the Esquimaux in his own home life and seen the Turk in his quaint and oriental way perform his evolutions in entertainment. I have heard the most exquisite music that a German band of many pieces produces and listened to the tune of the Chinese, India man or the natives of Java. I have seen, that is, merely looked into manufacturers' hall, mechanical building, the electrical exposition and some of the other buildings but I can't tell you what I saw. You must come and see for yourself. But the "half has not been said" through the newspapers. It's wonderful to think that here in Jackson Park can be seen people of all nationalities of the earth nearly, their mode of living, of dress and ideas generally of life, by the exhibit of their inventions, their mechanical devices and ways and means of gaining a livelihood. The exhibits from our own United States are grand, marvelous and beyond my explanation. You must come and bring your eyes.
I find the exhibition and grounds not in a finished and thoroughly inviting condition to the critic's eye, though the authorities are working forces night and day to put on the finishing touches.
