La Follette Advocates Election Of Roosevelt

Senator Robert M. La Follette, Jr., progressive Republican senator from Wisconsin, issued a statement last week advocating the election of Franklin D. Roosevelt.

It is evident, La Follette said, that Hoover would block progressive measures in congress while Roosevelt indicates a willingness to cooperate with progressives on legislative action to meet the extraordinary crisis.

"I shall therefore vote for Roosevelt because I believe he offers the only immediate hope for the relief of ten million unemployed men, women and children, and six million farmers, who with their families are threatened with the loss of their entire stake in our economic order," the senator said.

"If he is elected I shall feel free to oppose any of his policies which are not in accord with my own convictions."
