Tuesday Morning & Friday Afternoon.
While our arms have been almost uniformly successful on the Seaboard and at the West, in Central Virginia we have failed, generally, of making a permanent stand, back of the Potomac river.
Our latest intelligence indicates a series of bloody conflicts. The foe, emerging from the Rappahannock, has failed in his grand design of cutting in twain our forces, we judge by the reports.
It is to be hoped our lines of fortifications may hold the foe in check, and fields of Pennsylvania, until the 300,000 fresh Union soldiers can be sent against them, and save the Capital, and the towns.
We give what appear to be the most reliable despatches, to Monday noon, indicating both successes and losses to our arms.
