Though reluctantly, we may with confidence repeat the assertions of the Philadelphia papers—that this dreadful disease is once more in that city.
Tho' this is unquestionably true, the state of this unfortunate city does not appear so alarming as it has been in former seasons. We are informed however, that the inhabitants are leaving the place in great numbers and that the public offices are about to be removed. Every appearance justifies the measures taken by our Board of Health, in imposing quarantine on all vessels from that harbour. The sum total of deaths, reported by the Sextons of the different burying grounds, for the last 48 hours, preceding the 26th inst. is 35, three of which are accidental. The following is the CITY HOSPITAL REPORT.
From the 5th July to 24th August, inclusive.
Admitted 66
Discharged cured 5
Died 29—34
Remaining in the Hospital 32
16 of whom are convalescents.
Of the diseased 6 were admitted in an insensible state,
7 with the black vomit.
7 died within a few hours after admission.
20 who may with propriety be considered as dying when admitted; the remaining nine (except two admitted on the 2d day of their disease) were admitted in an advanced state of their indispositions.
N. M. VAUGHAN, Apothecary.
The Board of Health, offer the above statement to their fellow citizens, being of the opinion it will entirely relieve the hospital from the injurious reports which have circulated concerning it, and also that it will prove the necessity and advantage of sending the sick thither immediately after they are attacked.
By order of the Board of Health.
P. HOLLINGSWORTH, Sec'ry.
