BOTH BAERS GIVEN OFFER FROM GARDEN
NEW YORK, Feb. 25. (UP)—Both the Baer brothers, Max and Buddy, have been offered a crack at the winner of the fight between Isidore Gastanaga of Spain and Primo Carnera scheduled for March 6. Madison Square Garden Boxing Promoter Jimmy Johnston wired duplicate offers to the fighting brothers yesterday. An answer is expected today.
Baer, former heavyweight champion, announced his retirement after losing by knockout to Joe Louis last September. In recent weeks however, he has indicated he would like to stage a comeback.
FAIR OAKS, Cal., Feb. 25. (UP)
Neither Max nor Buddy is ready to meet the winner of the Isidore Gastanaga-Primo Carnera fight, Ancil Hoffman, manager of the Baer brothers, said today.
It would be out of the question for Max to enter the ring again unless he was in proper shape, and Buddy is too young and inexperienced to be sent against a veteran. Hoffman insisted.
Hoffman plans to take the Baer boys on an exhibition tour soon. Buddy will box and Max may do some sparring along with his refereeing.
