Rep. Kidd Denies Griffin Alliance

Rep. Culver Kidd, a candidate for lieutenant governor, and former Gov. Marvin Griffin, running for governor, Monday denied charges that there is an alliance between them.

Mayor Ed Wilson of Macon, also running for lieutenant governor, accused Griffin of supporting Kidd's candidacy, saying Griffin wanted a man he could "control" in the state's No. 2 job.

Griffin's headquarters flatly denied it, saying Griffin had friends in several of the candidates for lieutenant governor and would not endanger this support by showing any favoritism.

Kidd denied he was riding on the coat tails of any candidate and said Wilson's charge was a weak attempt to get his own campaign going.
