Move for Selection by Acclamation in Convention Wins Favor
Sentiment among Republican precinct chairmen and other party leaders in Henderson county strongly favors the nomination of a county ticket by acclamation, and if no serious opposition to this method develops the ticket probably will be nominated at a convention to be held in the Woodman hall at 2 p. m. next Saturday. This information was developed at a meeting of the county executive committee here yesterday when 18 of the 20 precinct chairmen and about 70 other party members met at G.O.P. headquarters. Almost all the chairmen and a large majority of others attending favored making nominations by acclamation, although it was made clear that any member of the party has the privilege of declaring for office and that if it appears that a ticket cannot be chosen without creating dissatisfaction the nominations will be thrown into a primary election. Preliminary to the county meeting, a precinct meeting will be held Thursday at the Fruitland school building with Charles Garren, chairman, presiding. All other precincts will hold meetings Friday night at the usual places. Organization work will be discussed. The county meeting Saturday will be open to the public. Meanwhile, prospective candidates for the several county offices to be voted on in November will be under discussion. While party leaders have remained non-committal on the probable personnel of the ticket, it is gathered from private sources that the line-up probably will be as follows: For Representative -Charles French Toms, Hendersonville. For Judge County Recorder's Court-R. H. Staton. Henderson ville. For Solicitor Recorder's Court -Richard Albritton. For Sheriff Morris Orr, Hendersonville. For Superior Court Clerk- Martin T. Garren, Flat Rock road. For Tax Collector -James Pace, Clear Creek township. For Register of Deeds--Albert Hill, Edneyville. For Coroner T. C. Whisnant, Hendersonville. For County Commissioners-J. R. Crye, Hendersonville; King Lanning. Clear Creek township; Webb Lance, Hoopers Creek township.
