FROM PORT-REPUBLICAN.
We learn by the sch'r Sally Flower, capt. Pierce, in 18 days from Port-Republican, that the brigands are daily gaining ground in that quarter. Grand Bois, Marabouais, and all the different posts of the Gulph of Jacmel, have been evacuated! The blacks had destroyed the plantations they often alarm the inhabitants, and intercept convoys to Croix des Bouquets, and renders it highly dangerous as a place of residence; so that this place, it is supposed, must shortly be abandoned. Gen. Kerrveau, the commander of the Spanish part of St. Domingo, had written for reinforcements, but had not received any when this vessel sailed. The state of affairs was carefully concealed from the Public, so that it was difficult to ascertain with precision what was the actual state of the French forces. Gen. Brunet, who commands in the south of St. Domingo, expected to evacuate the places he held, particularly Aux Cayes, &c. unless speedily reinforced. Of this there remained but slender hopes.
