Full Text
The bills making donations of the public domain to Michigan and Wisconsin have passed the U. States Senate. We presume there can be no doubt of their passing the lower House also. The number of acres granted to Michigan is 341,760; to Wisconsin 799,040, making an aggregate of 940,000 acres. At the minimum price of $1.25 per acre, this is equivalent to a grant in money of about one million two hundred thousand dollars to the two States above mentioned. It must be conceded that this is a generous policy towards the new States, but its justice to the old is a very different question.
