SHANGHAI, June 30. —An American Mission near this city is reported to be in flames today as a result of bombs hurled from Japanese planes.

The planes flew low over the mission building, it is said, close enough to observe the huge American flags painted on the roof.

The U. S. Embassy here has been requested to forward protests to Tokio in the matter.

Other bombings of American property during the past two weeks have been much decried by the Japanese following vigorous protests from Washington.

The situation became tense along other parts of the Chinese coast today as requests for landing of British and American soldiers was made to the commandants of naval vessels in the vicinity. These calls came from foreign concession occupants at Swatow and Foochow, as the Japanese brought on virtual complete blockade conditions in the conquering drive. Mistreatment of nationals was given as the request for aid from the navy.

Ships of the United States and England are standing by despite orders from Japan to leave.
