Full Text
The editor of the Reading Press thinks that, as the 5th of November was the day on which Henry Clay was informed of his defeat, the people of this country ought to keep it as a day of rejoicing and thanksgiving.
The people understand that matter. They are rejoicing. Maryland, Pennsylvania, Ohio, New Jersey, New York, Michigan, Iowa, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, are all rejoicing, all keeping a grand thanksgiving, and all these merry-makings are consequent upon the defeat of Mr. Clay, and the means by which that defeat was wrought and the measures which were consequent upon it.
