Thirty minutes of Will Rogers and thirty minutes of light popular music, both vocal and orchestral, will make up the Eveready Hour of next Tuesday evening, January 25, from Station WEAF, of New York, and its network of affiliated stations.
This will be the second appearance of Will Rogers in an Eveready Hour program. Two years ago he broadcast to millions of Eveready Hour listeners generous samples of the humor that has made him an international character. But this year Rogers will have a much bigger audience, for a number of additional stations, notably in the Middle West and the South, have been added to the network over which the Eveready Hour is distributed each week.
The cowboy humorist probably will divide his engagement into two periods of about 15 minutes each. He may devote the first period to the subject of radio-what he thinks of this broadcasting business.
He probably will utilize his second period for the discussion of general topical themes with all his digressions here and there to his recent European tour.
Rogers perhaps has gained greater fame through his recent articles under the title of "Letters of a Self-Made Diplomat to his President" than through anything else he has ever done, and while Eveready Hour directors have left it to Rogers to do his own portion of the program, they have expressed the hope that he will give his audience some humorous slants upon international problems.
The musical portion of the program will include a number of songs by the Eveready quartet, some new orchestral arrangements by the salon section of the Eveready orchestra, solos by Earl Maurel, Elliott Shaw and L. James and a duet by Barbara Maurel and Franklyn Bauer. Among the quartet numbers will be a brand new English song called "Cuckoo."
This is one of the songs which the quartet brought from London, where it spent weeks last fall singing before fashionable supper clubs as the "Revellers."
Among the orchestral numbers will be "Xylophonia," written especially by Joe Green, a Russian folk tune called "Night and" and "dini's Dancing Doll."
Miss Maurel's principal solo number will be "Out of the Dusk" and Elliott Shaw will sing "Three for Jack."
