Morris B. Abram, candidate for Congress in the Fifth district, "welcomes the support of Roy LeCraw's friends in this fight for free popular elections in this district."
Meanwhile, LeCraw, who has withdrawn from the race in the Fifth district, issued a statement saying, "It is quite evident that under the County Unit plan of election as set up by the Fifth Congressional District Committee under direction of the present minority incumbent. James C. Davis. that the cards are all stacked in his favor.
"Particularly is this true if Morris Abram and I should both run, thereby splitting the vote of those who desire a change in this unfair system."
Abram said in a statement that "LeCraw's decision not to enter the Democratic Primary assures my victory."
He stated that the line is now drawn 'between a man who advocates free popular elections and a minority vote office holder determined to thwart the demands of his constituents."
