European Sketches.
We have been favored with a London paper of the 14th July. The prominent news in it was given on Wednesday. We have made some additional collations. Every thing in the British journals which respected the U S continued to wear the most warlike aspect; and letter writers say they cannot discover any dawning of Peace. The unofficial statement of the appointment of Envoys to treat with our was repeated; but at the last dates they had not set out to meet them: When they go, if they carry with them any of the temper of the nation as it respects our Administration, very little hope of amicable settlement can be entertained from their meeting. In none of the debates of Parliament do we find a word on American affairs, good, bad or indifferent. In France, the new Bourbon sway was advancing to stability in a full & even tide; maugre the little jars which occasionally furnish the English papers with a croaking paragraph. Bonaparte was as little talked of in France, as if he had been dead a fortnight. The reports from Spain were various, but wholly unofficial. It can hardly be expected or hoped, that Ferdinand should find a bed of roses in the exercise of his assumed despotism. In Great Britain every thing in a national point of view appeared successful: and if the language of the allied Kings could be relied on, the most cordial amity existed between her and the continental cabinets--and her Peace with them promised to be of long duration Sweden appeared determined to enforce the cession of Norway. Except in that quarter, profound Peace prevailed throughout Europe.
AMERICAN COMMISSIONERS.
Ghent July 2--The American commissioners, Messrs. Bayard, Adams, Russell, and Clay, have been here some days; and Mr Gallatin is momentarily expected. The English ministers are Lord Gambier, Messrs. Colburn and Adam--but none of them have arrived.
