While the new artesian well was being sunk the well under Brook's confectionery store, and the one at Van Alstine's hotel suddenly ceased to flow, and have since refused to yield their liquid treasure as formerly. Mr. Van Alstine is now engaged in drilling his well deeper, hoping to reach a vein of water not yet tapped by the other wells.
