EAST LANSING, Mich.-(ANP)- Teams of police and law enforcement officials from cities in all sections of the country will consider the human relations trouble spots of modern American communities at a five-day Institute to be held at the Kellogg Center on the campus of Michigan State University, May 13-18.
Sponsored by the School of Police Administration and Public Safety of the University, in cooperation with the National Conference of Christians and Jews, the "Police-Community Relations" Institute will probe the problems of fair police practices in a democratic society, according to Dr. Everett R. Clinchy, president of the National Conference of Christians and Jews.
Major cities in the country and many smaller communities troubled by problems growing out of mixed population groups have been invited to send a team to study the policeman's role in community relations, Dr. Clinchy said.
Each team, comprising two or more representatives, will include police and law enforcement officials as well as community organization leaders.
"In the field of law enforcement we expect participants from every service engaged in protecting the peace and welfare of our communities," Dr. Clinchy explained. "They will include policemen, correction, probation and parole officials, prosecuting attorneys and judges. In the field of community organizations we expect attendance by representatives of churches and synagogues, schools and colleges, the media of mass communications, labor and management, parent-teacher associations, social welfare agencies and civic and social clubs," he said.
