MODEST MERIT.-The Safeguard of the 15th instant speaks of the return to Virginia City of the two apostles of Democracy, Hon. William F. Anderson and Judge Pitzer. They return quite satisfied with their mission of democratizing the inhabitants of this region, and that paper says they feel quite sure, after their arduous duties in enlightening the people, that Lander, Humboldt, Nye and Lincoln Counties, are safe for the Democracy by large majorities. "If ignorance is bliss, 'tis folly to be wise." As to what might have been the result in these counties had those luminaries not visited them we cannot say, but their presence, it is thought, has insured an increased Republican majority.-R. R. Reveille.
