Vandiver Files his Reply.
Beverly Attacks Officials of the New York Life.
Jefferson City, Mo., Dec. 4.--W. D. Vandiver, state superintendent of insurance, through his counsel, has filed in the United States circuit court, his answer to the petition of the New York Life Insurance company in the injunction proceedings recently instituted by the New York Life company to overthrow his order revoking its Missouri license.
Superintendent Vandiver charged at the time he ordered the company's license revoked, that the New York Life had forfeited its right to continue business in Missouri. He cited the testimony brought out before the New York legislative investigating committee to the effect that President McCall and his associates had, during four years past, spent large sums of money to secure desired state legislation and in campaign fund contributions.
In the reply just filed Mr. Vandiver accuses President McCall of debauching public morals, corrupting legislation and looting the funds of policy holders by extravagant ventures and reckless speculation.
The answer fills ten typewritten pages. It contains direct and severe attacks on President McCall, Vice President George W. Perkins and other officers of the New York Life.
It directs specific attention to the charge that McCall and Perkins have in bad and questionable real estate investments, lost $7,000,000 of the company's money.
He maintains that the Missouri insurance department has the right to require insurance companies doing business in the state to manage their affairs in a proper manner and to insist on election of new officers and the adoption of methods that will insure the funds of the policyholders.
