Great commendation is bestowed upon our little State, by the newspapers throughout the country, for her independence and consistency. We are not more hostile to the general government than other States but are ready to support it in every measure calculated to promote the common interest. The result of the late election was not produced by feelings of enmity, but by a just sense of self respect entertained by the people collectively, and manifested in a way to satisfy the world that the spirit of Rhode Island, is not to be measured by the extent of her territory.
