Full Text
The First Strawberries.—Mr. C. H. Hays has just favored us with an item, in the shape of some delicious red-ripe strawberries, the growth of his own garden at Sebastopol, and the first of the season in this vicinity at least, if not in the county. They exhale a most inviting odor where they lie now upon our table, nestling amid moss roses, violets and greenest leaves—an elegant extract from the fine poem which nature is to all who can read her.
Mr. Hays says his vines, several thousand in number, are loaded with fruit. His garden is a warm, sunny spot, with a light, rich soil.
