Full Text

The Irish armies rejecting the persons to be supported by the federal interest at the approaching presidential election, we have met with in the Virginia Gazette—according to this paper, Mr. King and Mr. Pinckney are to be the candidates, the first for the presidency and the last for the vice-presidency; it is added that the choice will be acceptable to the Carolinians as to the people of the eastern States; it is not improbable that the southern federalists will gladly support Mr. Pinckney when it is recollected that he was some time since chosen President of a jockey club, but whether this will be a recommendation to the people of steady habits is at least problematical.

Report in the Virginia Gazette names Mr. King and Mr. Pinckney as Federalist candidates for president and vice-president in the approaching election; choice acceptable to Carolinians and eastern states; southern federalists likely to support Pinckney due to his prior role as jockey club president, though its appeal to people of steady habits is questionable.
