RETRENCHMENT.—The principal bill passed last week by the House of Representatives of the State of Georgia, was one reducing the salaries of public officers, &c. By this bill, the Governor after the present term of office, is reduced from four to three thousand dollars. The salaries of the officers of State are reduced from two thousand dollars to $1600. The salaries of the officers of the Central Bank and Penitentiary are reduced 20 per cent.; the public printing 20 percent. The Judges' salaries are reduced from twenty-one hundred to sixteen hundred and eighty dollars, and the county officer's salaries or fees are reduced 20 per cent. The House likewise reduced the pay of the members. Instead of five dollars a day, the members are to receive four dollars per diem for the first thirty days, and two dollars per diem for all subsequent time while in session.
