Messrs. Editors:—Allow me to give you a short account of the doings of the Democratic party in this portion of Bladen. Pursuant to previous notice, the Democrats of White Oak District assembled at the Muster Ground for the purpose of raising a Democratic flag, and from the turn-out and the enthusiasm upon the occasion, you may rest assured that the Democratic party in this section is wide awake. When the call was made to raise the flag of the only national party in the Union, seventy-five good and true Democrats, just the right sort of men to be depended on—seized the ropes, and in one minute the flag floated at the head of a pole 125 feet high—freely and gloriously, and with an omen of success, which no K. N. flag ever had or ever will have in old Bladen. After the flag had been raised and the pole secured, Troy McGhee, a gallant little fellow of about 14 years, climbed up about 80 feet to unloose the ropes; while there he stood upright, and pointing to the flag, proposed three cheers for Bragg, Buchanan, and Breckinridge, and they were given by those at the foot as only Democrats can give them. After this, we broached a barrel of as good cider as ever went down a man's throat, and each man pledged the cause in the refreshing, but not intoxicating beverage. Mr. C. T. Davis, a young gentleman of talent as a politician, and a farmer, and respected as a good man, was called upon to address the people, which he did in a most capital Democratic speech, of about an hour in length, during which time he enchained his audience by the tact and talent with which he handled his subject. He defended Democracy, and exposed the secret party got up for its overthrow, with an ability which would have done credit to the most experienced speakers. He was greeted throughout by the most enthusiastic applause. Our gallant White is carrying everything before him, and will be elected to the Commons by a handsome majority. Taylor will beat Jones in this county just far enough, to show the opposing party that they can't quite come it in Bladen. Our candidate for Sheriff makes a fine impression, and will undoubtedly be elected. Bragg will do well in Bladen. As well as if "Sam." had never made his ill-omened appearance among us. For this you may take the word of one
DEMOCRAT.
