COMMUNICATED.

The Anniversary of American Independence was celebrated in the Town of Union, on the 5th inst. According to previous arrangement, the citizens assembled in the Court House at eleven o'clock. Edmund Robertson Esq. after delivering a few appropriate prefatory remarks, proceeded to read the Declaration of Independence: after which an Oration was delivered by Edward B. Bailey Esq. which I forbear eulogizing as he has been induced by the earnest solicitation of his friends to consent to its publication.

The Citizens then retired to the Swan Tavern and after dining sumptuously, drank the following toasts:

st The Day we celebrate: May it ever be hailed with joy by the reeborn sons of America; and may we always keep alive those feelings which animated our forefathers on that eventful day.

d The United States of America: The Home of freemen; although yet in her infancy, she is able and will defend that independence, which was purchased by the blood, and consecrated by the lives of her immortal heroes.

d. Gen'l. George Washington. We search history in vain for his equal his virtues have founded an empire of rational liberty, and his fame will immortalize the age of Republics.

th La Fayette: Whether wielding the Marshals truncheon, or a captive in the dungeons of Olmutz, he is still the same unalterable patriot; may his visit to our country be hailed by the acclamations of a grateful people.

th. The departed heroes of our revolution: May the same spirit that prompted them to deeds of valour, animate the bosoms of Americans to the latest posterity.

th The President of the United States: Although the tongue of calumny has attempted to cast a gloom over the evening of his political life, yet we feel confident that while at the helm of government, he will never loose sight of the best interests of his country.

th The battle of New Orleans: Rivalling in splendour the long famed achievement at Thermopylae.

th Commerce the parent of Civilization: The protectress of the arts, and the supporter of national greatness.

th The Patriots of South America and Greece: from us they have caught the fire of liberty; may it never be extinguished among them, and may they found an empire of freedom as imperishable as monumental marble

th The Holy Alliance: A speedy destruction to that unholy group; and a speedy union of all free nations against the encroachments of tyranny.

th Our next President: May he be the choice of a free people, and one best qualified to discharge the duties of that exalted station.

th Patrick Henry The distinguished Orator and Statesman: May we never forget, that he gave the first impulse to the ball of that revolution, which terminated in our Independence.

th The Fair Sex: They afford us domestic happiness without them this world and its riches would be nought: they soften the rough tempers of men, and prompt them to noble actions.
