The Locos of Union.

The last number of the Jeffersonian contains the proceedings of the late convention of the locos of Union County. The editor in speaking of it, says "the convention acted very judiciously in its nominations. Surely the people of Union can safely trust their legislative interests in the hands of such men as Watt and Orsborne. We feel in our very bones that they will be elected." Well this is a fair endorsement of William Watt, as a candidate for the Legislature, and it is at the same time a most emphatic endorsement of the great exploded system of internal improvement. Mr. Watt was a member of the legislature which created the system; and no man in this county has been more bitter in his denunciations of that same system and those who voted for it than has the editor who now so handsomely compliments Mr. Watt, one of its most ardent supporters and advocates. For years have the locos of this and Union County denounced Mr. C. B. Smith for his connection with the system, and now they have nominated a man for re-election, who not only voted for it, but was most active in securing its passage. We find no fault with Mr. Watt for his vote, but we only wish to remind the locos that they can "surely trust their legislative interests in the hands of Mr. Watt," who voted for a measure which has bankrupted the state, ground the people down into the dust by excessive burdens of taxation, from which they will never escape.

Mr. Watt was one of the "Hen And Chicken" politicians of internal improvement days—a "whole-hog man" in every sense of the word, and the convention now acted "very judiciously" in nominating him. Where is David Hoover? Let him look at this. Dare he open his mouth in condemnation? We shall see.
