Full Text

Appointment of Foreigners.—Our readers are aware that great excitement has existed in New-Orleans on account of the appointment to office of others than native citizens by the Governor. The Bee states, that out of thirty-eight appointments for the city of New-Orleans, all were of natives except seven, and of the seven naturalized citizens, four were of offices in which their services are rendered gratuitously, and one is appointed an auctioneer, or merely privileged to pursue a particular profession, so that only two persons, who are not native citizens, have been appointed to offices of profit.—

Really it appears to us that the hostility which has been displayed to naturalized citizens by such an excitement having been produced on such grounds is perfectly ridiculous; and when it is recollected that the objection comes from a party which pretends to hold in abhorrence all office holders and office seekers, it affords a beautiful illustration of the sincerity of their professions.
