Full Text

Harvest.-We learn that several farmers in this vicinity have already commenced harvesting their winter wheat, and that it is turning out much better than was anticipated. The heads are not quite as long as in some other years, but the grain is unusually large and plump. One of our most substantial farmers brought us a few heads taken from a field of forty acres, the grain in which was as bright and plump as any we ever saw. The gentleman who brought it gave it as his opinion that the quality of winter wheat, in this section, would be much better this season than for a number of years past. Fears are still entertained for the spring wheat, as there is already some rust on the blades. Another week will decide its fate. Corn grows rapidly.

Since putting the above in type we have received several other specimens of winter wheat, better, even than that referred to above. The heads, too, were larger.
