For the Alexandria Daily Advertiser.

The following sketch of an estimate will show the immense saving of distance, and consequently of time, by having the Turnpike Road by the Court House instead of Centerville.

It is supposed the number of barrels of flour brought annually to Alexandria, from the west of Little River, amount to one hundred and twenty thousand, and this may be expected to increase,

120,000

These at twelve barrels to each wagon require one thousand trips, and if three miles be saved in each trip in coming, and as much in returning, there will be a saving of six thousand miles in one year to the transporters. In twenty years the saving will amount, in miles, to

120,000

Supposing a wagon to travel three miles an hour, the saving in time to the people employed, will exceed four years in the twenty. To the merchants this matter is referred for their computation, who too are requested to consider, how the trade to Alexandria can be benefited by putting the country people somewhat out of their way, in coming to them with their products, as well as all those who have intercourse from Winchester, &c. to this town.

To the friends of the route of the Turnpike Road, as established by the board, the names of the following gentlemen are presented as fully qualified, for executing the duties of President and Directors of the Little River Turnpike Company.

Leven Powell, President.

Charles Simms,

J. T. Ricketts,

Directors.
