Yesterday a Motion was made in the House of Commons, by the Honourable Charles Fox, for repealing the Marriage Act, which has given much Offence to the Nation, and for making a new Act in its Room. Lord North, Edmund Burke, and several others, opposed the Motion. Sir George Saville, Mr. Cornwall, and others, supported it. Mr. Charles Fox answered, with great Spirit, and Force of Argument, the Objections of North, Burke, and the rest. The House divided; and sixty two were for Mr. Fox's Motion, and sixty one against it.

The Insolvent Debtors Bill is ordered to be engrossed.

The Commons have passed the Bill for the better securing and preserving his Majesty's Dockyards, Magazines, Ammunition, and Stores.

The Bill for the better observing of the Lord's Day is read the first Time, and ordered to be printed.

On Tuesday the Bill for the better Relief of the Protestant Dissenters was read the first Time, and ordered to be read a second Time on Friday next, and to be printed.

The House ordered that in the Bill for regulating the Settlement of Bastard Children their Settlement shall, in all Cases, follow the Settlement of the Mother.

At a Court of Aldermen held yesterday at Guildhall, the Petition to the House of Commons for opening the Importation of Corn was ordered to be presented, after a long Debate, by Mr. Sheriff Bull alone, the Majority of the Court of Aldermen being of Opinion that Mr. Sheriff Wilkes is in Parliament for the County of Middlesex, and therefore was exempted from that Duty. Mr. Wilkes insisted on his Right and Privilege, which was allowed by that Court, after a full Hearing.
