Full Text

Captain Young of the brig Spark, which arrived last evening from Vera Cruz, whence she sailed on the 18th instant, reports that the government forces had been, for some days, within half a mile of Vera Cruz, and that a cannonade had been conducted at intervals from the 15th to the 18th, by the leaguers--More assistance to the government troops had been sent for.-- Nearly all the cattle and sheep in the city had been consumed by the troops of Santa Anna. Flour however, was very plenty, and had fallen from twenty dollars to eight dollars per barrel. A report which has reached us from Tampico, that the cause of Santa Anna was last gaining ground, and was beginning to be fearlessly and openly advocated in the very face of the government, and that disturbances in favor of Santa Anna had taken place at the city of Mexico, seems to be without foundation.
