Opens June 26
GREENSBORO, N. C. -
The Southeastern Open Tennis Championships, sponsored by the North Carolina Tennis Association will be held here on the Windsor Community Center courts this weekend, June 26, 27 and 28. According to Doctor George C. Simkins, Jr., president of the local, Windsor Center Tennis Club, host to the tourney, a full entry is assured based on the large number of early applications already received. Sanctioned by the American Tennis Association, six events are scheduled for the three day event. These include: singles for men, women and men's veterans and doubles for men, women and mixed. Play is scheduled to begin at 10:00 A. M., on Friday and the list will close one hour before. Several social events have been planned for the entertainment of visitors which include, among others, a swimming party on Friday afternoon and a sport dance on Saturday evening. both at the Windsor Center. Officers and committee chairmen of the sponsoring group include: Dr. R. Walter Johnson, Lynchburg, Va., tournament; J. H. Wheeler, Durham N. C:, trophies; Mrs. Charles Herbin, .Greensboro, ..entertainment; John Beckwith, Greensboro, housing; Eugene Levette, Greensboro, entry; William Jones, Baltimore and Alex Rivera, Durham, N. C., publicity.
