Full Text

Extract of a Letter from Dominica, dated March 16.

We are here under the greatest consternation and terror on account of the many and violent Earthquakes felt here of late; all yesterday and last night, without any long intermission, the shocks more violent than were ever known in the island before. It is dreaded some fatal issue will soon follow. One in particular, yesterday, the motion of the earth, with a strong hollow sound, was so sensible, that we feared all the houses in both towns would have fallen down, and that the earth would have opened; no other mischief happened besides a general panic in all the inhabitants.
