THE CONVENTION.

A correspondent of the Mississippian, writing from Copiah county, in relation to the time of holding the Democratic nominating Convention, says:

"It is perfectly useless to talk of meeting on the 2d Monday in May, for two or three strong reasons, which must be apparent to every one who will reflect for a single moment. First—there are eleven Judicial Districts in the State, and the Circuit Court in some one of the counties in each of these districts are holden on that day. Jurors, witnesses, suitors, and members of the bar of our party, will all have to attend these courts, many of whom would probably wish to attend the convention. Secondly—there are some fifteen, twenty, or twenty-five counties in which the Circuit Courts thereof are holden after that time. At these courts most of the citizens will be in attendance, and then will be the time to hold their primary meetings, and appoint their delegates. There cannot—will not be meetings of the people in reference to this subject before the circuit courts are holden. Thirdly—the large body of our party are laboring men, and so early a day will conflict so much with their business that they will not attend. We will have delegates but from few counties; the cry will be heard that it was but a small "clique" attempting to dictate to the people. Let us hold the convention in the early part of July, when the farmers will be more at leisure; then we will doubtless have a full meeting, and each and every portion of the State can be heard. This cannot be the case if it is holden any time in May."
