A letter from Paris of the 28th Says, Our fears with regard to the affairs of Italy are somewhat abated. the King of Sardinia, of whom we were not a little afraid, will assuredly agree to the propositions that have been made him, because the king of Spain seems determined to maintain peace in this part of Europe; nor have we any doubt but that this monarch, when he is once settled on his throne, will do his utmost to restore peace between this crown and England. This is what the Marquis de Lusace, our ambassador at Naples, intimated in his last dispatches, but we are not sure that his catholic majesty will take part in the war, if a peace should be impracticable. The [French] king would gladly give up something to England; but his majesty will scarce yield all that perhaps the English will demand; and if he should cede what they ask, it would only be to gain time, and prepare more effectually for revenge.

in being for a time: for it is impossible to give it. As a man:
ner, all our trade. The court has ordered the marquis de
attended the King in his voyage. We expect much from
Lanjun to engage the Queen of Spain in our favour, if she
the viscount d'Aubeterre, who is not asleep at Madrid.-
He writes, that Mr. Wall will not hold long for England
if the King should be for us. It is pretended that Mr.
Berkenrode, the Dutch ambassador, has given assurances,
in the name of the Burgomasters of Amsterdam, that the
States General will declare against England as soon as
they are sure of the disposition of the King of Spain, So
that the fate of France depends in some measure on his
Catholic majesty.
